Great Britain’s Monthly Energy Stats
Great Britain’s energy explained: October
In October, wind was our largest source of generation, providing 31.2% of Great Britain’s electricity with gas coming second at 29.5%.
Just over half of electricity came from zero carbon sources, peaking at 83% on 12 October at 9:30pm.
No coal was used in October following the closure of Great Britain’s last remaining coal-fired power station in September.
90% of our gas came from UK and Norwegian gas fields, with liquefied natural gas (LNG) providing 8% and storage withdrawal 2%.
Distribution networks transported 56% of our gas to homes and businesses. Power stations used 21% to generate electricity, we exported 12% to Europe and Ireland, and stored the remaining 9%.
