Maximum Generation
As part of the rationalisation of balancing services, we are no longer actively procuring the Max Gen service. Contracts currently in place with stations, will continue until station closure of if terminated.
The Maximum Generation (Max Gen) service allows access to capacity which is outside of the Generator’s normal operating range in emergency circumstances.
Max Gen is required to provide additional short term generation output during periods of system stress for system balancing. This service allows access to unused capacity outside of the Generator’s normal operating range. This service will be initiated by the issuing of an Emergency Instruction in accordance with the Grid Code BC2.9.2, Section 4 of the CUSC and the Maximum Generation Service Agreement.
Stations contracted for Max Gen have the ability to increase generation above its normal operating range when required. If instructed, the units will be considered in merit order while taking into consideration other factors but not limited to locational constraints.

Payment is made in the form of a Utilisation Payment (£/MWh) which is detailed in the providers CSA. Payment is made only when the service is utilised and the energy has been delivered.
