NESO Markets Advisory Council (MAC)
NESO has a central role today in GB energy market design. The MAC has recently been established to inform our approach to strategic market design and delivery, based on robust evidence, international best practice, and the needs of and impacts on wider industry.
The group is made up of experts from all parts of the electricity value chain including networks, generators, flexibility providers and academia.

Steve Jennings
MAC Chair
Steve is an experienced Board Advisor and NED with over 30 years’ experience in the Energy sector. He led PwC’s Energy practice in the UK and now holds senior roles with companies enabling key aspects of the energy transition.
David Carroll
Head of Future Power Markets, EirGrid
David has worked for the Irish Transmission System Operator for 18 years across infrastructure, operations and regulation. He now leads the future markets area.
Rachel Fletcher
Director of Regulation
Rachel’s remit at Octopus is to create the regulations and markets needed to achieve net zero quickly and affordably. Rachel was previously Chief Executive of Ofwat and was as a Senior Partner and Board member of Ofgem.
Sotiris Georgiopoulos
Director of Distribution System Operator (DSO), UK Power Networks (UKPN)
Sotiris joined UKPN in 2005 as a graduate engineer and has worked in engineering, construction and innovation. For the last decade he has championed innovative ways to plan and operate our networks such as flexible connections and the development of flexibility markets. Sotiris is also Chair of the ENA's Open Networks project.
Robert Gross
Director, UK Energy Research Centre
Robert is Professor of Energy Policy and Technology at Imperial College, where he was the Director for the Centre for Energy Policy and Technology (ICEPT) and Director of Policy at the Energy Futures Lab. He has extensive post-graduate training experience.
Angus MacRae
Director of Energy Economics, SSE
Angus leads the SSE Energy Business’ electricity market economics and energy code governance functions and has a wide range of experience across the energy generation and use landscape gained over 35 years spent mostly in the electricity industry.
Alastair Martin
Founder and Chief Strategy Officer, Flexitricity
Alastair is a professional energy engineer with over 26 years of experience in the energy industry. He founded the first Demand Side Response (DSR) business in Great Britain in 2004.
Andrew McAleavey
CFO, Luminous Energy
As CFO of Luminous Energy, Andrew is helping deliver solar and energy storage projects across 4 continents. Andrew has over 10 years’ experience in the energy sector including COO and CFO of Penso Power as well as interim CFO of Limejump.
Guy Newey
Director of Strategy, Energy Systems Catapult
Guy has 15 years’ experience across the energy sector, including: advising two Secretaries of State in Government; at the energy supplier, OVO Energy; and at the think tank, Policy Exchange.
James Samworth
Co-head, Greencoat Capital
James Samworth co-heads the Bioenergy and Renewable Heat team at Greencoat, the leading UK renewables investor. He has been investing in the renewables sector since 2009 and has 10 years prior experience in the steel industry.
Rebecca Sedler

Rebecca is a member of National Grid Interconnectors Executive Team. Having undertaken commercial and strategic roles at both EDF and E.ON over the last 20 years, Rebecca is passionate about people, decarbonisation and customer advocacy.

Paul has worked in demand response for more than ten years, with direct experience of the markets in Australia, New Zealand, Great Britain, and Ireland, and exposure to market design issues in other parts of Europe, Asia, and the Americas.

Prior to joining KPMG in 2015, Simon had 25 years in the UK Government, and was latterly DG Energy in the Department of Energy and Climate Change and led the Electricity Market Reform Programme 2010-15.

Sian is CEO and founder of Correla Limited, a SaaS and technology managed services company. Correla creates products which help participants in the UK energy market manage their interactions more seamlessly and cost effectively.
Ainhoa Anda
Head of Data Centre Energy EMEA, Google
Ainhoa leads the energy procurement and energy infrastructure delivery for Google’s data centres in EMEA. As part of her role, Ainhoa is responsible for the execution of Google’s 24/7 carbon free energy program. She has over 15 years of experience in the energy sector.
