Craig Dyke, Director of System Operations and Chris Radojewski, International Public Affairs Manager at NESO have been at COP29 as part of the UK's delegation to outline Great Britain’s journey to a zero-carbon energy system.
Through our engagement at COP, we can help accelerate global decarbonisation by sharing our learning as a blueprint to decarbonise global energy systems.

COP29 presents an excellent opportunity to build relationships with other electricity and gas system operators, and energy stakeholders from around the world including Bulgaria, Greece, Morocco and South Korea to share information and learnings.
We’ve been explaining to the global community how we’re supporting the UK’s global emission reduction commitments through our preparations for zero-carbon operations, and our recommended pathways for a clean power system in 2030.
Part of our engagements involved meeting colleagues from electricity and gas system operators in Greece and Bulgaria to discuss the challenges of the energy transition and ensuring security of supply. Collaboration and cooperation with neighbouring countries is key, whether in Southeast Europe or in the North Seas.
As NESO, we’re responsible for planning for the whole energy system and connecting with other system operators enables us to reflect on joint challenges and the innovative solutions required to decarbonise our energy systems.
This follows the UK's commitment to Energy Connectivity Dialogues with Belgium, Bulgaria, Czech Republic, Greece, Italy, Moldova, and Romania.
During the Scaling grid investments at unprecedented pace round table, Chris Stark, Head of the UK’s Mission Control, and other energy industry stakeholders discussed our Clean Power 2030 recommendations, and the importance of this work to set out a clear path and certainty for the supply chain. By working together, we can ensure a future where everyone has access to clean, reliable, and affordable energy.

At COP29, we’re also supporting and participating in dialogues organised by the international initiatives we’re involved in such as the Powering Past Coal Alliance, Green Grids Initiative and Energy Transition Council who’s missions all involve accelerating global progress towards zero carbon energy.
We also joined the Energy Transition Council (ETC) ministerial session moderated by the UK’s Climate Envoy, Rachel Kyte, to discuss how we’re supporting Pakistan’s control room through the ETC by sharing best practices.
