Branxton will facilitate the connection of offshore renewable developments as well as the reinforcement of capacity between Scotland and England.

The link will involve substation works and HVDC converter stations at both Peterhead and the South Humber. In the SHE Transmission area, BPNC is the required onshore circuit reinforcement to facilitate this additional 2 GW link. Circuit upgrades will also be required in the South Humber area.

The existing Enderby – Patford Bridge – East Claydon 400 kV double circuit comprises of a combination of 4x400mm² Quad Zebra and 2 x 500mm² Rubus 400 kV overhead lines on L2/2 single circuit tower. This limits the rating of the circuit to 1687 MVA/2009 MVA (pre/post fault)
