Aligning grid connections to Great Britain’s future…
6 Nov 2024 - 2 minute read
This event was an opportunity to inform politicians about our immediate and longer-term plans to improve the grid connections process via our five-point plan and connections reform consultation. It was well attended by Members of Parliament, industry and Ofgem. We discussed the need for more network infrastructure, grid connection reform, the role of the regional system planner and electricity connections in rural parts of UK, such as Wales.
Julian Leslie, Head of Networks and Chief Engineer highlighted that the UK is the “Fastest decarbonizing network in the world” reflecting the fact that our connections reform plans will help to further decarbonise the system to achieve our net zero ambitions.
The event raised awareness among politicians on our plan to speed up grid connections and the challenges, and opportunities facing the energy system. MPs raised specific constituency concerns with local connectivity and grid infrastructure, with several representatives from Wales expressing concerns on limited connectivity in mid-Wales.
Alongside MPs, key stakeholders such as Ofgem, developers, energy organisations were in attendance, and we took the opportunity to spend time after the briefings to discuss these reforms with industry representatives.
