Making a difference to diversity at ESO - a "fantastic feeling"
We caught up with Nina Bhogal in our Electricity Market Reform (EMR) team as part of our series profiling some of National Grid ESO's most interesting roles. Watch and read about Nina's 20 year history with the company below – including the difference she's made to diversity and inclusion at ESO.
As part of the Electricity Market Reform (EMR) team – a ringfenced function that sits within National Grid ESO – I have a unique job.
The EMR was set up by the Government to administer two key mechanisms – the capacity market and the contracts for difference scheme. These mechanisms address the key areas of the energy trilemma: security of supply, decarbonisation and consumer value.
The capacity market ensures we have a good supply of electricity for our future needs, and the contracts for difference scheme incentivises low carbon generation for all new technologies.
I work in Contracts for Difference and help low carbon electricity suppliers apply for funding and support them throughout the application process.
I’ve had lots of opportunities at National Grid, but my favourite one was being part of the team that set up employee resource groups for gender, ethnicity, LGBT, faith and disability. These groups still exist today, which is a fantastic feeling and makes me proud.
