Fintan Slye awarded accolade for leadership in lowering grid emissions

National Grid ESO’s executive director, Fintan Slye, has been awarded a prestigious international accolade for leadership in efforts to achieve lower emission energy systems.

Fintan’s award follows the launch last year of the of the Global Power System Transformation Consortium (G-PST), which saw the ESO join forces with power system operators around the world to overcome some of the key challenges associated with the clean energy transition.

Awarded by the Energy Systems Integration Group (ESIG) – a leader in global expertise for energy systems integration and operations – the accolade recognises the accomplishment in launching the G-PST consortium, and its leaders’ efforts to support power systems across the globe to decarbonise.

Representatives from the consortium’s other founding partners also received awards, including leaders from the Australia Energy Market Operator (AEMO), California Independent System Operator (CAISO), Ireland’s System Operator (EirGrid) and Denmark’s System Operator (Energinet).

Last year was the greenest year on record for Britain’s electricity system, with average carbon intensity – the measure of CO2 emissions per unit of electricity consumed – reaching a new low.

Commenting on the award, Fintan said:

It’s very much a reflection of the dedication and expertise of everyone at National Grid ESO whose commitment is taking us closer to our ambition to decarbonise Britain’s electricity system, and of our counterparts at our G-PST partners who share our vision for helping the world’s power systems to reduce emissions.
